Purpose: A Collage of distinct experiences![]() Self-portrait photographs (selfies) took 2013 by storm and became Oxford Dictionaries' (2013) “Word of the Year”. In addition, my city, Victoria, BC, was identified as the selfie capital of Canada the following year (Times Colonist, 2014). Clearly pictures that represent us are important in our Western society. In much the same vein of the importance of self-representing pictures, there is a Canadian belief in a cultural mosaic, the representation of Canadian culture as one big picture made up of the culmination of smaller, distinct, multicultures. Having emigrated to Canada in 1989, it seems fitting then to represent myself and my experiences within the University of British Columbia's Masters in Educational Technology (MET) program through a collage of distinct experiences which unify what I learned and how I intend to apply it. Given that I wish to continue to add to my eP even though my program has come to a close, it is more accurately defined as a living collage as it too will change over time.

Significance: Technology to enhance and support teaching and learning![]() An eP will allow me to explore the facets of these multi-layered and complex relationships as they pertain to how my teaching has been critiqued with an eye to the affordances of technology. That is to say, this eP will help me showcase my ideas and findings about how technology can enhance and support my teaching and learning.
As a result of the MET program, my teaching has changed. As I continually reflect on, question and critique my assumptions about education, I suspect my teaching will continue to change also. I believe it has evolved in concert with my formulation of the next steps towards my continued desire to prepare students for the world they face today and tomorrow. Technology promises to connect us and give us access to vast quantities of information. As part of offering a well rounded education to my students, my plan is to allow opportunities for them to explore, practice and critique the challenges and opportunities associated with this expanded connection and access to the virtual world. |
Goals

This eP will:
1. Reflect my progress in the MET program according to the overarching motif of a living collage.
2. Highlight the changes in my teaching pedagogy as a result of participating in the program.
3. Suggest next steps for me to implement my evolving ideas and share these experiences in leadership roles within my teaching departments, school and school district.
